Froogs Stoptober Challenge

 From Google images

Why not join in Frugal Queens Stoptober Challenge,  not the smoking one that on TV at the moment but one that challenges you to stop frivolous spending and learn to make the most of what you already have.  For me its time to take stock of what I have and to put a stop to all unnecessary purchases.  October is an expensive month, I have car tax, MOT, service and insurance all in one week, luckily I have saved for these over the past 12 months and have more than enough to pay for everything with enough left over for the fuel to get us down to see my son and family in Devon.  We have a 5 day break booked and paid for and I am working extra shifts for a bit of spending money, so nothing will be needed from the budget.

Both freezers are full to bursting as are my storecupboards, the only things I will be buying are fresh fruit & veg and milk. We have enough cleaning materials and toiletries to last us at least 6 months, although my hubby does need a haircut which usually costs £6. We dont need to buy any clothes or shoes or spend on impulse buys.  We just need to make the most of everything we already have and to be grateful that we are in a comfortable place with a roof over our heads and that we are warm and well fed..

I thought I would weigh my Sealed Pot today, there is still 2 months to go before it is opened and I'm dying to see how much is in it.  I joined SFTs Sealed Pot Challenge at the beginning of January to buy treats for the family at Christmas. All our £2 coins have gone in plus any change from my wages each week, we get paid cash so the notes go in my purse for shopping and the loose change goes in the tin. I will weigh it again just before its opened.

Lunch time today and I looked in the fridge to see what needed using up, we had an odd bit of ham some left over chicken from yesterday a couple of spoons of sweetcorn and a piece of red onion.
I chopped it all up and put it in a dish with a big dollop of low fat mayo and some black pepper, gave it a good stir and you have a delicious sandwich filler.
I popped it in a tub for the fridge and we will use whats left for tomorrows sandwiches.
We had it on a breadcake with some crunchy lettuce and a home grown tomato fresh from the greenhouse.
A sandwich fit for a Queen and a King of course, my hubby loved it, it was really tasty and moist, and no butter needed because of the mayo.  Most important was I used up what was already in my fridge. I know on my menu plan it says beans on toast for todays lunch but things do change when you have leftovers to use.

Why not join in the Stoptober Challenge, you can set your own limits and you might just be suprised at how little you can manage on for the next few weeks.

Thank you for reading

  1. I've joined in the challenge, too. I have some unusual expenses this month but like you we have budgeted for them. The freezer and pantry are stocked although I may have to pick up some veggies as the month gets nearer the end. (I still have enough left from the grocery budget to do this with no problem.)

Your sandwich filling looks great. I always like to have a flexible menu plan so that things like leftovers can be taken advantage of.

  2. Thank you so much for talking about car expenses; a reminder to me to transfer the money over to the current account to pay for the car insurance just due. Phew! As it happens it wouldn't have put us in the red, but nearly. Thanks!
