Frozen cook and serve Mushy Peas
Its not very often we eat mushy peas as Phil isnt that bothered so when we do its usually a tin from the supermarket. My Mum had tried these a few weeks ago and gave me a bag to try, today was the ideal day as we were having the Chicken Pie I made on Sunday.
They are so easy to do
Tip the whole bag of frozen peas into a big pan and cover with boiling water, cook for 30 minutes on a gentle heat, I added a pinch of bicarb of soda and when nearly cooked added a level teaspoon of salt and a heaped one of sugar, this was just right for us but you can season to your own taste. You do have to keep an eye on them so they dont get dry and stick, I did add a little more water during cooking.
Once cooked and cooled I portioned them up for the freezer, I got 8 portions in total.
They kept the nice bright but natural colour and tasted lovely, they were even a winner with hubby! We both thought they were far superior to the tinned variety and I will definitely buy them again.
I have checked on mySupermarket and you can buy them from Iceland £1. Sainsburys £1:20 or Tesco for £1:25.
I have not been sponsored for this post, the above opinions are my own and the product was purchased by my Mum. :-)
Have you tried anything new lately and been pleasantly surprised, I would love to know :-)
Until next time
Take care

I'm with Phil on mushy peas.
ReplyDeleteI love mushy peas, I will look out for these.
ReplyDeleteI cannot remember the last time I had a mushy pea, but it is good to know that these are good if I get the urge! Glad that you enjoyed them. xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea, I dislike any peas greatly but my husband loves them. I like your idea of freezing them in portions.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant idea to cook them all and then portion them for the freezer.
ReplyDeleteAs I HATE mushy peas and Lovely Hubby LOVES them it would be good to be able to make individual portions for him to have with a meal .... and I can have nice normal frozen garden peas ;-)
They are made a few hundred yards from us !!
ReplyDeleteI love mushy peas. They must be served with mint sauce you know. I serve them with most things, but on a cold evening when you are standing around a bonfire, a mug of mushy peas with mint sauce on, eaten with a spoon they take some beating.
I love mushy peas. I recently tried Maggi stock cubes. Having bought a pack of beef and a pack of chicken I proceeded to tip them out of their cartons into my stock box. Unfortunately the silly beggers Maggi have given them both the same colour wrapper. Now gravy is lucky dip!!
ReplyDeleteI have seen these on offer several times but I don't like mushy pease, but I like Sue's idea for my husband x
ReplyDeleteI like mushy peas but the tinned variety are always a funny colour. They look very nice though, might try them.
ReplyDeleteI love that " The product was purchased by my Mum " lol you little Tinker you do make me chuckle x
