National Trust Days out

Farnborough Hall 

We really enjoyed our sunny afternoon at this lovely National Trust property, built in the 1600's of honey coloured stone it is still lived in by the Holbech family. Despite the size of this house there were only a handful of rooms open to the public and it did feel a little like we were snooping, especially when one of the stewards told us that the gentleman went upstairs to his "flat" until the public had gone.  The house is only open 2 afternoons a week so we took advantage of this on the Wednesday of our first week.

 This is the back view of the house complete with patio furniture.

 I loved this bench round the big tree, it was on a sloping part of the garden and when I sat on the bench my feet didn't touch the ground, they views were amazing, beautiful rolling countryside.

 We had a lovely walk round the grounds and in a shady area saw a sign pointing through a rusty gate to the Game Larder.

Quite posh isn't it, it was too dark inside to take pictures but it was full of large hooks in the top part for hanging the game.

The flowering shrubs were so pretty against all the greenery.  Shame about the old woman in the photo!! lol

Here you can just see the entrance to the Ice House, it was gated off so you couldn't get down to see it properly, but Philip was tall enough to get this photo.

The gardens were wonderful with hardly a blade of grass out of place and no dead heads to be seen on any of the plants.

A sneeky photo of the satellite dish on the roof, proof that who lives there might be living in a house from the past but really is quite up to date with modern technology!!

There isn't a tea room at this property but you could get drinks and cakes in the local village hall. As we were only a few miles away we went back to our caravan and had our own homemade Cream Tea with a few strawberries.... delicious and frugal.  Nothing spent today and we had a fabulous day
