Busy Bees today. How to make a wax bee frame.

We have had a lovely busy 3 hours today, making 50 wax frames for Bee Boxes. Our daughter in law makes them for Pollybell, our Austerfield Study Centre organic veg suppliers, she is very busy at the moment with one thing or another so while we have a few spare hours we have helped out.

Everything comes ready cut, just needs to be assembled.  We managed to get a little production line going on the garage bench, I'm rubbish with a hammer and nails so my job was to assemble the frame.

The pieces are just a push fit and once the back top rod is in place you can slide in the wax sheet..

Being a warm day they were a bit soft and difficult to handle so we thought it a good idea to put them 10 at a time onto a flat board into the bottom of the freezer, they only took a couple of minutes to firm up enough to handle.

They just slide down the side slots into place, you can just see the wires running through the sheet, they have a tiny loop on the bottom of each one which needs to be bent into a right angle to sit flat on the bottom of the frame.

Once in place you put a strip of wood over the hooks and another in the top slot to secure the sheet and keep everything in place. That's my bit done......over to hubby with the hammer and nails!

9 tiny black pins are used to tack it all together.

This is the fiddly bit, you have to pin through the wood and through the wire loops, this makes sure the wax sheet stays put when it hangs upside-down in the Bee Box.

We found they just fit in the Pollybell veg crates perfectly.

And 25 fit perfectly in each crate! It took us 3 hours to do all 50 and tidy up after ourselves.
