We were invited to the Leavers Assembly....tissues required! It was lovely, there are only 14 children in her class and they all read a little piece they had written about their time at the school, the highs and lows the good times and the not quite so good, there were some tear jerkers but also plenty of laughs. They had a huge screen on the wall for the computer and it was showing photographs of each child while they were speaking, I thought that was really nice to see how they had changed from the first year right up to the present day. They sang a couple of songs, one about leaving the school and moving on and the rest of the school sang a song to them wishing them luck, that was a bit lumpy in the throat! Then they finished off with the old Alice Cooper song, Schools Out for summer!

Willow and her best friend Freya, they have been buddies since Mum and Tots and now they are going to different schools :-( lets just hope they remain good friends.
Then it was party time, a total surprise for all the children....They were picked up in a Limo driven round for an hour and then taken to a local Wine Bar for a garden party....we didnt get an invite.....shame! :-)
If you could have heard the noise when they arrived...it was just like a St Trinnians bus!!
They had the most amazing time but they were so shattered..emotionally and physically.. A party they will always remember....
But..... Willow will still be around at her old school....
She is featured on the huge board outside the school gates :-)

We had our little celebration on Thursday, Willow chose where we were going for tea...The Mayflower, our favourite eatery!

ReplyDeleteIt was the same when I left school, you left at the end of term and started your new school in September. The only gift I got was a bible with the school stamp on the inside!

DeleteDoesn't time fly. No doubt she will transition to big school fine. My DB used to be in charge of photographing the children at our old school. He would put it all together, usually with tear jerker songs for all the parents to see. Loads of tissues.

ReplyDeleteIts a fabulous family style school with about 100 pupils, grandparents have always been welcomed into school, which has been brilliant for us. Now comp is a different matter!! X

DeleteLeavers assemblies are such emotional events. I still remember Daniel and Eleanor's, I think I was blubbering more than they were. Such a shame that Willow and her best friend are going on to different schools but I'm sure they'll remain friends and Willow will make many more in the next chapter of her life. I think they mature so quickly once they start secondary school, and she's going to be a beautiful young lady, she already is. How fabulous being picked up in a limo and having a party at a wine bar, nothing like that for us when we left school.
ReplyDeleteI had something in my eye several times :-). Freya has a brother in year 2 and he sobbed his heart out and sat on the teachers knee because his sister was leaving him! Poor thing he was heartbroken. We are expecting so many changes in Willow during the next year, I have akready seen this happen this past year with my god daughter, who incidently is at the same comp :-). Nothing exciting for us at school either!
DeleteI nearly shed a tear as well. What a lovely thing for the school to do with the pictures of how they'd grown. How lovely.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's nice to have a bestie that goes to another school because what ever problems (girls do have them) they have they will always have that true friend to support them who is outside of the school environment. The first year of big school is always a strange one with new friendships starting and old ones dwindling and then they all swap round again.
My eldest (nightmare) ......long story, but then the three boys all in the same school. First year shake up I call it. How exciting she will love it x
It was lovely that they had gone to the trouble of loading each memory stick with photos too. They have done a year book each year which all the class contributed to but that was £8, a small price to pay for all those lovely memories.
DeleteDuring the transition week Willow met a lovely girl called Mia and they have stayed in touch by texts and calls, they hope to have a day together in the holidays. Willow made some contact cards while she was at comp to give to people she liked incase they wanted to keep in touch during the holidays. I thought that was a great idea. My boys went to the same comp, lets put it this way..... i am glad all those teachers will have left by now....lol
What a brilliant idea the memory stick with pictures on was. My daughter has just left secondary school and they get a leavers book with pictures in. Unfortunately she hasn't been given it yet but I'm looking forward to seeing her and her friends in it.

ReplyDeleteWillow is such a pretty girl and it sounds like the school did her proud on her last day. Limo and wine bar eh? How the other half live! ;) Its always a bitter sweet transition isn't it - the change from primary to secondary and leaving some of their friends behind. Thanks for sharing x
