I have been messing around with a photo resizing app tonight and I havent got a clue what I am doing, it seem I have totally cocked things up, so apologies for the photographs.
This is my new bag, remember the purple one I got for Christmas, well when my friend made it it was always my intention to have a go at making one for myself. Once I got stuck into it I found it fairly simple, I took it to our Thimbles group last week and everyone liked it :-) that pleased me mo end as I class them all as experts!
This one is work in progress, using exactly the same process I have made a wider bag to hold my knitting, the next stage is to add handles, I want to use dowel ones so I need to make a casing with a hand size gap in the middle. I think I know how do it I just need to get on with it. I will keep you up to date.
Plus a little Pinwheel pincushion about 5inch square using a few off cuts, easy but effective and brilliant for all those long quilting pins.
Simple dinner tonight...Chicken Ding.. I did make gravy and hubby had mash on his, it was left over from a family roast last night.
I was in the depths of the freezer this morning and found this apple and blueberry frozen already in the baking dish so I lifted it out to defrost and whizzed up some crumble, I didnt have any white sugar to spare so I used brown, it didnt make any difference, it was still delicious.
I had a small portion and hubby had a double helping...plenty left for tomorrow!!
We have had a bit of a varied week this week, we were out for Sunday Lunch, proceeds from my last years Sealed Pot, there were 7 of us and it was delicious as usual. Monday we popped into town for my friends birthday present. Tuesday my friend comes round for a knit and natter session. Wednesday I cooked a load of beetroot and pickled it ready to sell at our next Coffee morning, then cooked full monty roast chicken dinner and chocolate brownies for dessert. Today has been quite lazy....knitting and snoozing... There has been the usual housework and washing done with a bit of ironing to do in the morning before I head off to Thimbles in the afternoon.
I am getting a bit fed up of the dark nights an miserable weather, which according to the local news is set to get wintery next week...SNOW!!.......Roll on spring!!...
Thank you for popping by
Take care

Oh! I hadn't heard about the snow -anything to make a change from grey rainyness would be good. Love the bags and pin cushion and nice to see you back blogging- have missed your news
ReplyDeleteAt least the days are brighter after snow and all the gardens look tidy with a nice thick blanket on them! Thank you, I must try better at blogging more often.
DeleteThe bags are lovely, some nice fabrics in the one you are making :)
ReplyDeleteThank you the blue patterned fabrics were a couple of fat quarters from ebay and the solid blue from Dunelm.
DeleteYou have quite been bitten by the bug of these patches, but they are unusual and lovely, especially your examples. I could see me doing these in the future, still crocheting like mad at present trying to finish an afghan and make a new blanket for my friend's 50th birthday in about 6 weeks time. Sounds fairly easy but we are on holiday (proper holiday!) for two weeks but I am still working full time and we are trying to find work and new site from April 1st, so not much free time at present. Lovely to see what you have been doing though, I really hope the weather doesn't get too bad, but agree with you about this grey, drizzly stuff around all the time.
ReplyDeleteI have, but then they are so easy and I can handstitch anytime.
DeleteI hope you manage to get a new site, if you go back to the one in Norfolk let me know, i think we will be taking Willow again this year. Good luck with your blanket :-) x
Pretty Patchwork, I love the blues in the Cathedral Window bag. I often use demarara sugar in a crumble, it gives a bit of crunch. I am not too keen on snow but have to agree that this grey wet weather is dragging on long past it,s sell by.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam, I am a very beginner at this patchwork, but it is addictive.
DeleteLove the quilting - I am aiming to do some this year for the first time. Knowing me, I will get too ambitious first time around and put myself off!
ReplyDeleteThank you, i can recommend these squares for a beginner like me, they really are easy., you can use them for different projects such as table mats, runners, cushions, bags of different sizes and of course quilts, they are very portable and can be stitched by hand. The bags have been handstitched then machined to give them strength. I like the fact that they are a completed square when done and no need for faffing with the big pieces of wadding and backing material, once they have been stitched together its job done! There is a tutorial on here you could follow:-) x
DeleteI'll do you a deal, we'll have the snow you can have the rain! Your bag looks smashing. Very jealous, bags like that are great for holding knitting. Also jealous of your knitting/snoozing day. Can't remember the last time I had one of those! X
ReplyDeleteNo deal, I am sick of the rain! Send me some sunshine please :-)
ReplyDeleteOne day you will be able to knit and snooze, I had to wait until I retired though! X
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteSorry, meant to ask before - how do you stitch the squares together? I remember when you were introduced to them at the craft group you said you were glad you were not stitching them together, but I just wondered how easy it was.
Just put right sides together and oversew on the back with tiny stitches, for the bags I stitched 2 rows then stitched the 2 rows together, then I started a 3rd row with the bag base squares. When they were all handstitched together and while it was flat I machine stitched them together usin a small zig zag as top stitching, it also gives the bag its strength. Once uou have done all the flat bits you can shape the bag, again handstitch then machine, I found the corners awkward but did my best. I do intend making another so I will take pictures for a sort of tutorial :-) its easy to do and once you have done one there will be no stopping you. HTH xx
ReplyDeleteThanks yes it does, I was not sure that just handstitching would be strong enough for a bag. I look forward to seeing your finished knitting bag and of course, your tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to reply. x
